Manic Monday: Star

MM-bluetextOn Sunday, I wanted to go outside, but I still wanted some privacy.
I'm not fond of being in an area where there are a lot of people. Not living ones, anyway.
The parks were all FULL of people doing Memorial Day weekend stuff, and there was no hope of privacy there.
So I went to the cemetery. Got there around 4:00.
I'd stopped at the store and gotten a few snacks (diced watermelon, chocolate milk), and found a secluded spot next to Clara somebody-or-other who was born in the mid-1800's. I figured her relatives probably wouldn't be stopping by anytime soon.
I realize that Memorial Day weekend is probably THE WORST time to expect privacy in a cemetery, but even so, it wasn't all that bad. There were a few people mulling around over in the newer sections, paying their respects to deceased friends and relatives. Lots of the tombstones had flags on, displaying the stars and stripes to anyone who wanted to see it. A few people drove past me, but not many. For the most part, Clara and I had silence and solitude.
That's really all I wanted; just peace and quiet and privacy, combined with a bit of fresh air and nature.
It worked out well. I ate my mini-lunch in the shade of a bunch of trees, and started reading a new book I'd just bought at the store (David Sedaris's Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim).

I also had fun texting a few friends back and forth. I said "Have a good weekend," and then I added a separate message for each person:

Jason: Have a good weekend. Eat sheep.
Morgen: Have a good weekend. Eat something crunchy.
Morgian: Have a good weekend. Eat cheese.
Meloncutter: Have a good weekend. Eat something deep fried.
Kyle: Have a good weekend. Eat something cylindrical.
Steve: Have a good weekend. Eat meat.
(different) Steve: Have a good weekend. Eat something beige.

I stayed in the cemetery til 9:00 pm, when it started to get too dim to see. By then I'd read half my book and felt ready to go home.

Oh, and Clara says hi.

Cemetery? I know it's quiet there but gives me the creeps. BTW, you've asked about the asterisk....I'm sorry to say but that is not an asterisk. That is a golden yellow sun with eight primary rays, each containing three individual rays; and at each corner of the triangle is a five-pointed golden yellow star. The eight primary rays of the sun represent the first eight provinces that sought independence from Spain and were placed under martial law by the Spaniards at the start of the Philippine Revolution in 1896. I hope you were enlightened by this.

Dang.... Not thinking about the area code and keying it into you. I woke up when the phone went off and looked at the text and thought Who the F)))) and went back to sleep. I am sick as a dog having sex in a truckload of dead possums.

Well off to work.

Later Y'all.

Happy MM! It sounds like you were able to do some introspective thinking while at the graveyard. Don't go there for the Halloween holiday ... just saying ...(smile)

I used my MM entry this week to encourage participation in the National Moment of Remembrance taking place at 3pm (local time) on Memorial Day. I hope that your blog readers will check out my MM post if they have time or inclination.

peace, Villager

Bee: Be my guest!

Cheerio: Oh, I knew it wasn't REALLY an asterisk; I was just describing the shape of the object so you'd know what I was referring to.

Meloncutter: You didn't recognize me? Ouch!

Villager: I hear it's a fun place on Halloween too!

SandyM: Yummy!

Jamie: What's that? Sounds like a Chinese dish... Why would I be eating Chinese food in a cemetery? I'm confused... if it still bugs me in about five minutes, I'll break down and Wikipedia it.

Travis: I should have brought her some Chinese food.

good thing I had pringles on hand!

love David Sedaris - you should read "me talk pretty one day" too, but "corduroy and denim" is my favorite.... you should read Augusten Burroughs next.

I like the profile very interesting. My case though is a Tuesday Dread, when I feel the next day would be Saturday.

Wow how I wish to collect fountain pen as well, I got only one hehehe...

Definitely peace and tranquility is an aim...

Thanks for the blog visit... yeah I am trying to recognize those bloggers who have been blogging for some time now...

good wishes,
pete
